Goodbye Google: City of Portsmouth College moves to a single digital platform

AspiraCloud is delighted to welcome City of Portsmouth College as our latest further education customer.

Operating four campuses across Portsmouth, the college offers a range of academic, technical, professional and vocational courses including A levels, T levels, vocational courses, foundation degrees and apprenticeships.

Following an official merger in August 2021, the college has spent the last couple of years focussed on getting all systems, processes and expectations aligned. The final part of the project will see AspiraCloud helping the Sixth Form Campus move from Google to Microsoft 365 – to boost collaboration and business support as well as improving the teaching and learning experience for all staff and students.

Structured training to drive user adoption & deliver a positive experience

This migration to Microsoft 365 will impact around 2,000 sixth form students along with a team of around 80 staff. The project will involve the creation of a “Change Champions” community along with structured training, to ensure everyone on campus is ready to take advantage of the new Microsoft technologies.

AspiraCloud will work closely with key stakeholders across the college, to establish the current usage of Google and identify any challenges and concerns they may face prior to commencing the migration to Microsoft 365.

With our experience of migrating terabytes of data from Google to Microsoft, AspiraCloud will be responsible for the Microsoft 365 migration project from start to finish, including planning, training, technical discovery, data migration and post-migration support. Immediately following the migration, our experts will undertake an onsite floor walk together with the college’s IT team. This will provide additional capacity and reassure the user population. We will also be delivering in person pre- and post-migration training sessions, covering Teams, SharePoint and any other topics that users would like addressed, to really drive user adoption and confidence.

Explains Emily Pountney, Deputy Principal at City of Portsmouth College: “The migration to Teams for teaching is the next step for us in terms of creating a single digital platform for the whole college. We have had a really positive response from teachers – albeit they are understandably nervous about moving away from something they are so familiar with. I am really pleased to be working with AspiraCloud who really appreciate the human side of this project, and they are putting a great deal of time into understanding everyone’s concerns and making sure they deliver a positive experience for all.”

Adrian Edgar, CEO at AspiraCloud concludes: “We are thrilled to be supporting City of Portsmouth College with their migration project at the Sixth Form Campus. We believe a Microsoft-centric approach will enable staff to deliver an equitable curriculum – powered by Microsoft’s investment in tools such as Learning Accelerators and accessibility – and ultimately help all students achieve more.”

Working with around 100 Multi Academy Trusts, independent schools, universities and colleges, including The King Edward VI Foundation, Bridge Academy Trust, Academy Transformation Trust, and Bath Spa University, AspiraCloud is dedicated to empowering education institutions to improve the quality of teaching and learning through technology.
