AspiraCloud completes strategic Microsoft 365 migration project with Bath Spa University
AspiraCloud is delighted to have supported Bath Spa University successfully complete a major cloud migration of 42,000 users from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. This new M365 platform offers students and staff an enterprise depth solution, including access to a wide range of powerful Microsoft apps combined with enhanced security tools.
The University was running its cloud-based collaboration services using Google LLC., to provide mailbox and personal data storage to more than 40,000 users made up of staff, students and alumni. However, as part of a plan to allow for greater collaboration and sharing, Bath Spa University wanted to bring all users together, under one directory and one tenant, to better manage services and security both on and off campus.
Kickstarted back in January this year, AspiraCloud helped Bath Spa University with the planning and migration of 24,000 alumni from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 to offer a more flexible and integrated service for all users. Once complete, Phase Two saw the subsequent migration of around 2,000 core staff and 15,000 students from Google to the same Microsoft 365 tenant including distribution lists, calendars, shared mailboxes, and other associated data.
In terms of numbers, this major migration project saw 20,000,000 files successfully copied from Google Drive, personal networks and shared networks, encompassing a total of 114 terabytes of data moving to OneDrive and SharePoint.
Adrian Edgar, Managing Director at AspiraCloud explains: “With Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and more, Microsoft 365 provides a comprehensive suite of applications to equip students and staff with the digital tools needed to thrive in the modern era of learning and working. Combined with the enhanced security tools, this is a solution with real enterprise depth. We will continue to work closely with the University’s IT Team, offering training, knowledge transfer and support to maximise their investment in this powerful technology.”
Rachael Johnson, CIO at Bath Spa University adds: “We are delighted to have successfully migrated to Microsoft 365, which will enable our students and staff to benefit from its rich functionality and capitalise on valuable digital skills for the future. AspiraCloud was with us every step of the way and our partnership was invaluable in helping us to successfully deliver this major organisational change project.”
